Wilderness Walk

April 29, 2019 @ 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

Get your boots out, your pack packed, and your bear spray ready – Wilderness Walks registration opens at 9 a.m. MST on Monday, April 29!

Remember, it’s not too late to get early members-only registration, which begins on Monday, April 15. Just become a member to receive your early registration code.

2019 marks the 59th year of Wilderness Walks, and it’s the biggest season yet. There will be 123 Walks in wild places across the state, so there’s sure to be an adventure near you.

This summer, Walks participants will have the chance to:

  •  Scale the nose of the Sleeping Giant outside Helena
  •  Look for fossils in the Musselshell Breaks Wilderness Study Area
  •  Explore the giant Ross Creek cedars
  •  Cool down in the ice caves of the Big Snowy Mountains

That’s just a tiny fraction of what’s available. To see all the Walks, locations, and difficulty ratings, please visit wildmontana.org/walks.

Please note that there’s been a change to the registration process: Walks are divided into early (May – July) and late (August – October) seasons. To minimize no-shows, general registration for late-season Walks will open on July 22. We’ll send reminders leading up to that date.

One more thing: if you become a member by donating $40 or more by Wednesday, April 10, you’ll also receive a copy of our Discover Wild Montana book. Discover Wild Montana is a beautiful full-color book that details each Walk, features exclusive content from our field team and members, and highlights the summer projects planned by our Volunteer Trail Crew.
You can also receive a copy of Discover Wild Montana by donating $40 or more at one of our Spring Into Summer events, which are taking place across the state this spring.
Please contact me with any questions. I hope you’re as excited for Wilderness Walks as I am.
See you on the trail!
